Hemorrhoids

HemorrhoidsWhat are hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids are enlarged veins in the anal canal. They may be on the inside (internal) or on the outside (external). Hemmorrhoids occur when veins that are naturally present in the anal canal become permanently enlarged with persistent straining. Hemorrhoids may cause bleeding, itching or pain.

How are hemorrhoids treated?
The treatment of hemorrhoids depends on the location and severity of the enlargement. Most hemorrhoid problems are treatable by increasing the fiber and fluid intake. Warm baths, steroid suppositories or soothing creams are often helpful. There are several types of surgical approaches to hemorrhoids.
